Internal UX exploration in collaboration with Blockchain @ Berkeley

Problem

Stablecoins are digital tokens pegged to real-world assets, like fiat currency. Despite their versatile applications, they often face distrust and encounter barriers to growth and widespread adoption.

Outcome

I led the app's UI design and visual identity while collaborating with the team on the core concept and product direction.

Background

Stablecoins are a type of cryptocurrency whose value is pegged to another asset, such as a fiat currency or gold, to maintain a stable price.

Problem

Why do stablecoins not see more widespread use in finance?

After conducting 23 user interviews, our team came up with three core factors.

Lack of trust

Volatile prices hinder widespread adoption and trust as a reliable means of transaction and value storage.

Limited liquidity

Lack of issuers restricts their growth and accessibility, preventing them from reaching a broader user base.

Poor integration

Payment infrastructure gaps, limited education, and user experience challenges hinder their adoption.

Using graphs to display data rather than solely numbers allows beautiful visualizations that are both visually striking and easy to interpret. Our approach focuses on simplifying complexity while enhancing aesthetic appeal, ensuring data is not only informative but also visually captivating.

Impact

stablepay translated a complex DeFi concept into a more approachable product experience, helping users better understand stablecoins and how they could be used in everyday finance. While the project was conceptual, it demonstrated how clearer information and more familiar interactions could reduce some of the distrust surrounding crypto products.

Reflection

stablepay was my first real UX project grounded in research, and it completely changed how I thought about design. Instead of jumping straight into screens, I had to understand the problem, validate assumptions, and use what we learned to guide our decisions.

It made me value research much more because I could see how it gave the final product a stronger foundation. I also really enjoyed taking something as confusing as DeFi and making it feel simpler and more approachable.
